Kawasaki Electric and Hybrid Propulsion Systems
These systems are capable of switching between multiple energy sources depending on the vessel’s operating conditions. They are designed to maximize the efficiency of energy usage for propulsion and systems within the vessel, and also to reduce exhaust gas emissions. Based on our many years of experience as a marine equipment manufacturer, we are able to optimize each customer’s propulsion system based on vessel size, purpose of use and operation style.
We will provide optimal solutions tailored to the needs of every user.
Features
- Harnesses sophisticated energy management technologies utilizing control technologies cultivated in the energy plant field
- Cutting-edge vessels equipped with these systems can still be operated in the same way as conventional ships thanks to advanced control technologies
- Offers safety and peace of mind with excellent redundancy and safety design
- System introduction is easy thanks to thoroughgoing installation support provided by skilled Kawasaki engineers
- Offers excellent expandability and compatibility in usage together with future energy-supply equipment such as hydrogen engines and fuel cells
Product Types
Hybrid Propulsion and Power Supply System
- Improves fuel efficiency via battery-based mitigation of adverse effects on engines caused by weather and sea condition changes
- When traveling within port or other areas where the required propulsive force is small, power can be supplied from batteries alone to enable zero-emission operations
- Battery and generator power is available in the event that a problem renders the engine unusable, enabling sustained vessel travel
- Use of this system together with the L30KG Kawasaki Green Gas Engine, a proprietary LNG-fueled engine developed by Kawasaki, makes even greater environmental performance possible
- In the future, combining this system with a next-generation fuel engine, such as a hydrogen engine, will enable zero-emission operations throughout entire vessel travel
Battery-powered Electric Propulsion and Power Supply System
- Enables zero-emission operations throughout entire vessel travel
- Eliminates engine noises and vibrations to improve onboard working conditions, and minimize negative effects on crew, nearby residents, and surrounding living environments
- No warm-up operations or maintenance are required for the main engine, resulting in greatly reduced demand on the crew
- In the event of a natural disaster, the batteries can be used as an emergency power source to supply their stored electric power to landside users
