Aircraft Manufacturing Automation Using High-rigidity Robots
As an aircraft manufacturer, KHI constantly strives to further improve its production capacity and reduce production costs in response to an increasing global demand for aircraft.
The processes used in the manufacture of panels for the airframe fuselage are particularly difficult to automate. Although processes such as large diameter boring and the fastening of components have been automated, they require expensive special facilities.
In light of this difficulty, KHI is working to automate these processes by leveraging our robot technologies.
However, a large reaction force is exerted on a robot when it processes or fastens components. Given this, we have developed a high-rigidity arm structure that inhibits bending.
To facilitate high-precision positioning, we have also developed a control technology that estimates and corrects any deviation in the positioning of the robot's hand while work is being conducted.
