Reducing Pilot Workload
To ensure that an aircraft flies stably in accordance with the pilot's intentions, the control operations must be accurately transmitted to the flight control system and the engine. Also, information such as the flight condition of the aircraft must be properly reported to the pilot.
Assessing Flight Characteristics Using a Flight Simulator
Modern aircraft must be equipped with a flight control system, which determines the overall flight characteristics of the aircraft.
Although guidelines have been established for aircraft characteristics such as the optimal sensitivity of response to operations of the control stick and the aircraft's stability, the software used for the flight control system is developed by setting optimal values for each aircraft based on pilot assessments.
The flight simulator used to assess flight characteristics during the aircraft development phase must be more accurate than the training simulators used by airline companies.
KHI has built facilities with significantly enhanced simulation capabilities and used them to develop aircraft such as the P-1 maritime patrol aircraft and the C-2 transport aircraft.

Electronic Device Integration Technology
KHI has developed sensor, computer and other technologies that have made significant advancements in recent years and applied them as electronic devices in aircraft. The sensors and other devices are linked to an information processing system to improve the aircraft's functionality.
The number of electronic devices installed on aircraft has also increased in response to the growing range of aircraft operational requirements. The technologies used to integrate these electronic devices and facilitate the complicated control and display of information is essential to aircraft operations.
In the P-1 maritime patrol aircraft, for example, the mission system and many other integrated devices are connected through high-speed data buses to realize a more advanced integrated system. Also, the aircraft's reliability has been enhanced through advanced redundant management of flight control systems by comparing signals from multiple computers to constantly monitor for errors.
