Purifying Exhaust Emissions

The global trend towards increased legislation on exhaust emissions reflects social demand for clean motorcycle emissions. Such legislation includes not only emission regulations adopted by developed countries, such as European emission standards, but also that adopted by developing countries throughout the world, including those in Asia.
In light of this, KHI is working hard to purify exhaust emissions through the use of electronic fuel injection control systems.
Catalyst technologies are another important means of purifying exhaust emissions.
Used to decompose the toxic substances in exhaust emissions, catalysts are mounted in the middle of the exhaust pipe. Since the catalyst's specifications should include high vibration resistance, high heat resistance (thermal shock resistance), and a low pressure drop, KHI has adopted the use of metal honeycomb catalysts, which have layers of corrugated stainless steel foils coated with a washcoat. The adoption of metal honeycomb catalysts has made a significant contribution to both improving engine performance and purifying exhaust emissions.
