Recovery of Waste Energy
Since the blast furnace gas is combustible and it contains dust and corrosive substances such as chlorine, KHI has implemented countermeasures such as adopting an appropriate sealing structure and using a sealing gas.
The turbine also has a built-in protective spring mechanism to ensure that an excessive force is not applied to the variable mechanism even if a fully closed stator blade becomes gouged by the dust adhering to it.
All of the blast furnaces in our domestic steelworks are equipped with pressure recovery turbines, which serve as environmentally friendly equipment for recovering waste energy and stabilizing the operations of the blast furnaces simultaneously. The number of pressure recovery turbines installed in our overseas steelworks is also increasing.
