Systematizing Hydraulic Components
Hydraulic systems are widely used in large-scale facilities or equipment such as hydraulic equipment for industrial machinery or deck machinery and steering gears for ships.
Each unit composing these systems consists of components including the hydraulic fluid tank, cooler, electric motor, hydraulic pumps and various valves, and controllers for controlling these pieces of equipment arranged on a base plate.
When planning a facility or piece of equipment, design of the hydraulic circuit, selection of the components, and arrangement of them on the base plate are performed to satisfy the required specifications.
In systems used under high pressure, manifolds are used, which are made by drilling holes in a large block of metal to make passages for the hydraulic fluid and various valves are then attached to its surface, instead of via pipes, in order to enhance reliability.
To design a manifold, three-dimensional CAD is used to design the valve layout and hydraulic fluid passages and analyze their strength.
