In response to the urgent global environmental challenges, Kawasaki Heavy Industries is undertaking various initiatives. One such initiative is the Kawasaki Green Gas Engine, which has achieved world-class power generation efficiency and environmental performance. Building on this, we have developed a 30vol% Hydrogen Co-firing engine, based on the Kawasaki Green Gas Engine. While maintaining the performance of the existing engine, this new model achieves further decarbonization, contributing to a better life for people around the world and a sustainable future for our planet.

Advanced Technology & Future-Oriented

Based on the KG Series, which has a track record of over 240 units (as of March 2025), we have realized a high-efficiency, high-output Hydrogen Co-firing gas engine.

Retrofit Compatibility

By applying minimal modifications to existing KG Series engines, rapid deployment is possible.

Hydrogen Ready

  • Hydrogen co-firing ratio can be adjusted even during operation.
  • Flexible response based on hydrogen supply volume.
  • Stable operation is possible even at low concentrations (from 5 vol.%).

Main Changes from Natural Gas Mono-Firing Engines (Main Body)

  • Reduction of fuel gas leakage risk
    • Reduction of flanged joints where leakage is expected (piping modifications) 
    • Flanged joints and other areas where fuel gas may leak are covered and monitored with detectors
    • The entire area around the cylinder cover is enclosed and monitored with detectors
  • Replacement with hydrogen-compatible components (main/sub fuel gas valves, fuel gas pressure sensors, etc.) System Flow
