Tokyo, May 29, 2026 — Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. announced its achievement of a quantitative understanding of advanced care practices at HillView Merrimac, an aged care facility in Queensland, Australia, through the care activity measurement by “mapxus Driven by Kawasaki™,” an indoor location information service leveraging digital technology. This represents the first overseas application of “mapxus Driven by Kawasaki™.”

Kawasaki has been working toward establishing a system that enables small-team care operations at care facilities by various technologies. In pursuit of this goal, Kawasaki has participated in initiatives such as the Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development (AMED)’s Care DX Fundamental On-Site Improvement Program and has also worked to systematize methods for improving care environments. In addition, in pursuit of more effective improvement approaches, Kawasaki has been conducting research into best practices overseas. During this research, Kawasaki found that Australia had implemented initiatives that could provide valuable insights for Japan’s care industry, leading it to focus on case studies from the country.

Australia has improved staff working conditions and safety while delivering individualized care within efficient small-team operations. Visualizing these practices through data enables their use as a model for analyzing and improving care facilities in Japan.

HillView Merrimac is a facility that has achieved a high standard of individualized nursing care and operational efficiency through advanced facility management and the practice of care management. In this care activity measurement, location data was collected and analyzed on staff movement patterns and time spent in each resident’s room. This made it possible to visualize where staff spend their time, what tasks they perform, and for how long, providing an objective and quantitative understanding of how individualized care is delivered to each resident, even with a small team in Australia.
Going forward, while taking into account challenges facing Japan’s nursing care industry, such as strengthening coordination between medical and nursing care services, Kawasaki will continue to broadly gather and organize knowledge on best practices and systems from regions around the world and deploy these findings as solutions not only in Japan, but also Europe, North America, and other regions around the world, thereby contributing to improvements in the care industry.

Overview of the Study
Study Period April 21 – April 28, 2026
Methodology Staff and residents carried pocket-sized locator devices.
By measuring changes in location data, movement, specific tasks performed, and time spent in each room were visualized. (Study participants: 125 staff members, 83 residents)

Kawasaki is currently working to create new solutions and optimal designs for care settings and more, guided by its business vision for the healthcare sector: “Co-creating the Future of Healthcare.” Kawasaki will continue to address challenges at care and medical facilities by developing one-stop solutions that combine the Kawasaki Heavy Industries Group’s diverse technologies and products with AI and remote technologies to support the efficiency of care and medical facilities, and to resolve the challenges they face.

*    A service provided by Kawasaki that combines indoor location information using Wi-Fi signals with outdoor location information and map data obtained via GPS and other means, delivering seamless location information across both indoor and outdoor spaces.
