VULCAN 900 Classic

Tokyo, December 17, 2009 — Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. announced today that it will launch its new VULCAN 900 Classic, a large-displacement cruiser* model with enhanced environmental performance, in Japan on February 1, 2010.

The VULCAN 900 Classic with its low, long look is equipped with a 902 cm3 liquid-cooled four-stroke V-twin cylinder SOHC four-valve engine that produces massive torque at low rpm. Outfitted with fat tires on chrome spoked wheels, a wide handlebar and a saddle that accents its curved contours, the VULCAN 900 Classic delivers classic cruiser styling. The VULCAN 900 Classic has been a favorite in the Japanese market since its debut in 2007.

The new VULCAN 900 Classic features an improved exhaust system for superior environmental performance that complies with the Japanese emissions standards that went into effect in 2007.

  • A honeycomb catalyzer with increased capacity minimizes the amount of toxins in the exhaust gas for cleaner emissions.
  • The new VULCAN 900 Classic is equipped with an oxygen sensor that monitors the oxygen concentration in exhaust emissions. It uses feedback signals from the oxygen sensor to fine tune the amount of injected fuel in order to maintain an optimal air-fuel ratio for efficient catalyzer operation.

* Cruiser generally refers to the classic American-style motorcycle with its laid-back riding style.
