Tokyo, September 29, 2008 —Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. announced today that it is releasing E Series robot controllers on October 1, 2008. These are compact and newly designed controllers that take into account customers’ feedback. The E Series has been developed by advancing the performance of their predecessor D Series robot controllers and improving each applications execution speed to a notable degree. As a result, the E Series is able to provide seamless operation and high performance. These controllers have been significantly downsized for the benefit of a production site to create a small footprint enabling a high-density layout. The E Series also places a strong emphasis on maintenance affairs to not only improve MTBF (mean time between failures) and reduce MTTR (mean time to repair) but also to enhance the self-diagnostic functions.
The E Series will be introduced alongside the new small/medium R Series robots which will be released in sequence from October, 2008. This will enable the operation of a powerful robot by using a compact controller.
Major features
1) High performance
As a result of the improved CPU capacity, The E Series is able to provide more precise track control, faster program execution and more seamless save and loading operations. Furthermore, the enhanced memory capacity significantly increases the number of programs that can be saved.
2) High potential
The E Series has a greater potential for expansion, as they are able to control two external axes by additional amplifiers. Furthermore, a maximum of 16 external axes can be controlled through an additional panel. The E Series also contains a network function to communicate with the host information system, various field buses and a software sequencer (KLogic). The high extensibility of the E Series represented by the above features enables a highly sophisticated system to be built without difficulty. Furthermore, a number of convenient options that meet users’ needs are provided based on Kawasaki’s abundant experience. The E Series comes with the special robot language AS Language to enable advanced operational and sequence control.
3) High quality and compactness
Downsizing and a high level of reliability have been made possible as a result of the latest hardware. A compact controller size, achieved through a strong emphasis on the downsizing of both footprints and cubic contents, enable a flexible on-site layout.
