Coal-Fired Boiler Delivered to Nippon Paper Chemicals
Sep. 09, 2008
Tokyo, September 9, 2008 — Kawasaki Plant Systems, Ltd. (K Plant) announced today that it has delivered a coal-fired boiler to the Gotsu Works of Nippon Paper Chemicals Co., Ltd.
With the installation of the boiler, NPC’s Gotsu Works plans to switch its in-house power generation from an oil-fired to a coal-fired system. Amid skyrocketing crude oil prices, this will contribute to the Nippon Paper Group’s efforts to realize oil-free operations while reaping significant savings in energy costs.
The coal-fired boiler will be used to supply electric power and steam to the Gotsu Works. It consists of a main boiler unit, exhaust gas treatment systems, a stack and other ancillary plants. The boiler features Kawasaki’s proprietary low-NOx burner, with effective in-furnace NOx reduction achieved through a two-stage combustion system. The boiler is equipped with an electrostatic precipitator and a flue gas desulfurization system, to ensure environmental protection. It also allows for mixed combustion of biomass fuels, leading to more effective use of resources and a reduction of the environmental impact.
