Kawasaki Receives Order for Electronically Controlled Marine Diesel Engines

| Tokyo, June 7, 2007 – Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. announced today that it has received an order for four Kawasaki-MAN B&W 6S60ME-C electronically controlled marine diesel engine units from Oshima Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. The delivery is scheduled between 2009 and 2010. Fitted with an electronic control system for fuel injection and exhaust valve timing, the electronically controlled ME diesel engine maintains optimal combustion conditions. This enables safer vessel operation and enhanced maneuverability at low speeds needed for entering and leaving ports. The ME diesel engine was designed for superior environmental performance. It lowers fuel and lubricant consumption while reducing NOx and soot emissions. Since Kawasaki unveiled its first electronically controlled model, the MAN B&W 7S60ME-C, in February 2005, three 7S60ME-C engines and two larger-scale 12K98ME engines have been delivered. With a backlog of three 7S60ME-C and four 12K98ME engines, this latest order brings the total to 16 for Kawasaki’s electronically controlled ME diesel engines. |
