Oct. 16, 2006
Tokyo, October 16, 2006 — Kawasaki Shipbuilding Corporation announced today that it has signed a contract to build an 80,000 m3 LPG carrier for Mitsui O.S.K. lines. This LPG carrier’s propulsive performance has been enhanced by Kawasaki’s specially designed bow called the SEA-Arrow*. There are currently eight LPG carriers with the SEA-Arrow bow, all of which have earned a top notch reputation for performance. The carrier is also outfitted with Kawasaki’s fuel-saving and propulsion boosting rudder bulb system with fins (RBS-F). This latest order is a testament to Kawasaki’s impressive track record in shipbuilding and the superior technological capability it has developed over the years since building its first LPG carrier in 1969. Kawasaki currently has an order backlog of five 80,000 m3 LPG carriers including this latest order. Kawasaki will continue to move ahead with aggressive efforts to shape the future of LPG carriers. *SEA-Arrow (Sharp Entrance Angle bow as an Arrow): This new and unique bow developed by Kawasaki reduces wave resistance with a design that delivers the effect of a bulbous bow without any protrusion.
