Bottom Ash Handling System Ordered for Korea

May. 23, 2006

Tokyo, May 23, 2006 – Kawasaki Plant Systems, Ltd. (K Plant) today announced that it has received an order for a dry bottom ash handling system for two coal-fired boilers from Halla Energy & Environment, a major ash handling system supplier in Korea. It will be installed with two 870 MW coal combustion boilers at the Yonghung Power Plant being constructed by Korea South-East Power Co., Ltd.

K Plant will supply the design and main equipment , as well as technical services during installation and commissioning. Delivery is scheduled for early 2007.

Kawasaki’s ash handling system is produced under license from Italy’s Magaldi Power S.p.A. It cools the ash by air, rather than water, thus making it more environmentally friendly and simplifying installation. The system also enables utilization of the ash, since it is discharged in a dry state.

This marks K Plant’s third dry bottom ash handling system order from Korea. In 2004, a system was ordered for two 500 MW coal combustion boilers at the Taean Power Plant being built by Korea Western Power Co., Ltd. In 2005, another system was ordered for two 500 MW coal combustion boilers at Korean Southern Power Co., Ltd.’s Hadong Power Plant.

Kawasaki has supplied approximately 80% of the ash-handling systems in Japan’s coal-fired power stations, deploying cutting-edge solutions for a range of boilers, from pulverized coal boilers to fluidized bed boilers and COM (coal-oil mixture) boilers.
