Tokyo, November 5, 2026 — Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. announced today that it has launched the “F Series Controller S-type,” a controller for industrial robots equipped with enhanced functions designed to counter cyberattacks and other security threats.

In recent years, increasing IoT adoption at manufacturing sites has expanded network connectivity for robots and peripheral equipment, advancing the use of production data and remote maintenance. At the same time, the risk of equipment shutdowns and information leaks caused by cyberattacks has increased, making cybersecurity measures for digital equipment, including robots, ever more important. In particular, as exemplified by the EU Cyber Resilience Act in the European Union (EU), there is growing momentum toward requiring companies that develop and manufacture products with digital elements to strengthen cybersecurity.

The “F Series Controller S-type” inherits the operability and expandability of the F Series Controller, which is widely used in industrial robots, while offering enhanced security functions such as user authentication, access privilege management and communication protection. These functions help reduce risks such as unauthorized access and system tampering, contributing to the stable operation of production equipment.

<Main Features>

1) Enhanced Security Functions
Supports authentication by username and password, access privilege management, operation log recording, and secure communication using SSH, FTPS, HTTPS and other protocols. By appropriately managing access to the robot controller and its data, the product helps raise the level of security required at production sites where network connectivity continues to expand.
In addition, integrity checks during OS startup and application execution control help reduce the risk of tampering and unauthorized software execution.

2) Compatibility with Safety Functions
While inheriting the safety control technologies developed for the existing F Series Controller, the S-type enhances both safety functions, including support for PROFIsafe, and security functions. By addressing both safety and security, it supports the stable operation of robot systems.

3) Development Based on International Cybersecurity Standards
The development of this product applies processes based on the international standard “IEC 62443-4-1” *, for which Kawasaki has obtained certification. Furthermore, by supplying this product, Kawasaki will help address vulnerability countermeasures, security updates, and other requirements under cybersecurity-related regulations such as the EU Machinery Regulation and the Cyber Resilience Act.
