Executive-Level Exchange Meeting on Intellectual Property Activities with the Japan Patent Office

Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. held an executive-level exchange meeting on intellectual property activities with the Japan Patent Office (JPO) on July 15, 2026.

The meeting was attended by six representatives from the JPO, including Commissioner Yasuyuki Kasai, and five representatives from Kawasaki, including President and Chief Executive Officer Yasuhiko Hashimoto, Senior Corporate Executive Officer Hiroshi Nakatani, and Makoto Aoki, Senior Manager of the Intellectual Property Department, together with other intellectual property personnel.

Under the theme, “Intellectual Property for Enhancing Earning Power: Integrating Intellectual Property into Business Strategy,” the JPO explained the importance of IP Intelligence, which involves the strategic use of intellectual property rights and patent information, as well as various initiatives to support corporate intellectual property activities and the progress of their implementation.

Following an overview of Kawasaki's intellectual property activities and basic policies, the Company introduced its corporate business strategies in the 17 strategic fields under Japan's Growth Strategy and its initiatives focused on securing patents essential to maintaining and enhancing business competitiveness. In addition, the participants exchanged views on the need for industry, academia, and government to work together in advancing standardization efforts related to Kawasaki's open-and-closed strategy, which is being promoted primarily in its hydrogen business. Active discussions were also held regarding the future direction of intellectual property activities and the organizational framework needed to support them.

Kawasaki recognizes intellectual property as an important management resource and is committed to enhancing corporate value through its appropriate protection and effective use. The Company will further strengthen its strategic intellectual property activities and contribute to sustainable growth and the enhancement of corporate value.
