Taketoyo Thermal Power Station (overall view)Tokyo, July 31, 2026 — Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. announced it has received an order to modify the biomass transport facility at Taketoyo Thermal Power Station (Taketoyo-cho, Chita-gun, Aichi Prefecture), owned by JERA Power Taketoyo LLC. Completion is scheduled for June 2028.
This project involves the implementation of fire prevention measures to ensure stable operation of biomass co-firing at the power station, which possesses one of the largest coal-biomass co-firing power generation facilities in Japan. Dust generation and accumulation will be improved by adopting an optimal operating method for biomass fuel and enhancing the dust collection capacity. Additional safety and monitoring devices that can promptly detect and instantly suppress the outbreak of fires will also be installed as a double safety measure. These measures will reduce the risk of fire and contribute to the stable operation of biomass power generation.
Domestic electricity demand has recently been increasing, driven by factors such as the construction and expansion of data centers and semiconductor factories. At the same time, the importance of utilizing non-fossil fuels, including biomass fuels, to counter global warming is also increasing. The present order is expected to lead to further orders as a solution to these societal needs.
Kawasaki will continue to provide optimal solutions to customers striving to reduce CO₂ emissions by introducing biomass fuels, and offer a variety of approaches and comprehensive support to help existing thermal power stations achieve decarbonization.
