Signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for Cooperation in Solving Issues and Optimizing Rolling Stock Technology and Maintenance & Operations with SMRT Corporation

Kawasaki Railcar Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (hereinafter “Kawasaki Railcar”), a member of Kawasaki Heavy Industries Group, and SMRT Corporation Ltd. (hereinafter “SMRT”), a public transport operator in the Republic of Singapore (hereinafter “Singapore”), have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to collaborate on resolving issues related to rolling stock technology and operation & maintenance.
Since the opening of Singapore’s MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) system in 1987, Kawasaki Railcar has supplied MRT trains for more than three decades, thereby making significant contributions to SMRT’s operation and maintenance activities. Looking ahead, operation and maintenance of over 900 cars serving North–South / East–West Lines and Thomson–East Coast Lines are expected to continue for further 20 years.
Kawasaki Railcar and SMRT will work in close collaboration to resolve complex issues associated with maintenance and operations. Both companies will further deepen the exchange of knowledge and experience in rolling stock technologies and operation & maintenance.
Kawasaki Railcar will continue to actively expand its rolling stock business — including maintenance support — in markets across Asia and the wider global market.
