Kawasaki’s ongoing commitment in the commercial scale project of production and transportation of liquefied hydrogen from Australia to Japan
Dec. 13, 2024
Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. (“Kawasaki”) issued the following statement regarding the hydrogen project in Australia.
Kawasaki is committed to the realization of a commercial-scale project to produce clean liquefied hydrogen from coal in Victoria, Australia and transport it to Japan.
As part of the development process, Japan Suiso Energy, Ltd. (“JSE”) of which Kawasaki is a majority shareholder, was awarded funding from the Japanese Government to progress the commercialisation demonstration phase of the project.
However, due to timing constraints as outlined in the Green Innovation Fund (GIF) program, JSE made a decision to amend the scope of the commercialisation demonstration phase of the project, and that now be undertaken in Japan. This will ensure completion of the demonstration of the commercial-scale facilities for commercialisation by 2030.
Kawasaki will engage in the development of a global commercial-scale international liquefied hydrogen supply chain, including Victoria, and will continue its work to assess the feasibility of the Victoria project as a potential hydrogen source.
