Kawasaki to Transfer Domestic General-purpose Engine Operations

Oct. 30, 2019

Tokyo, October 30, 2019 — Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. announced today the signing of an agreement to transfer Japanese domestic sales operations for small, air-cooled, general-purpose two- and four-stroke engines from Kawasaki Motors Corporation Japan (KMJ), a wholly owned Kawasaki subsidiary, to Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Meiki Engines Co., Ltd. (MHIM), a Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Group company. The transfer will be effective as of February 1, 2020.

Under the agreement, exclusive domestic sales rights for general-purpose engines will be transferred from KMJ to MHIM, with a complete transfer of sales and manufacturing to the Mitsubishi brand scheduled to take place by January 31, 2022. After-sales services and provision of service parts for Kawasaki-brand general-purpose engines are not included in the agreement, and will continue to be carried out by Kawasaki following the transfer.

KMJ is implementing this transfer of operations while concentrating its resources on Japanese domestic motorcycle sales in order to further strengthen competitiveness in this area.

Kawasaki’s General Purpose Engine Division remains committed to sales growth in the North American and European markets, where it will continue to focus investment in the turfcare sector through the supply of high-performance two- and four-stroke engines to OEM customers.
