Yokohama City Transportation Bureau Orders Subway Cars

Tokyo, October 11, 2018—Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. announced today that it has received an order from the Yokohama City Transportation Bureau for 42 3000V-series subway cars to be used in 7 car sets. The total order amounted to approximately ¥6.9 billion (including consumption tax), and the subway cars will be built at Kawasaki's Hyogo Works in Kobe City and delivered upon completion from FY 2022 to FY 2023.
Yokohama ordered the new subway trains to replace its aging rolling stock, and plans to use them on the Blue Line. Designed to better serve users and society as a whole, 3000V rolling stock boasts additional energy-saving features, barrier-free design, informational displays near doors, digital signage and other helpful features to facilitate greater user convenience.
Last delivery for the Yokohama Municipal Subway was the two 4-car 10000-series sets for use on the Green Line in 2014.The company's last delivery for the Blue Line was the 21 1000-series cars delivered for use in 7 car sets in 1972, at the time of the line's initial opening.
