(model EPD01)

Tokyo, February 23, 2016 — EarthTechnica Co., Ltd., a Kawasaki Group company, announced today that it will release the POWDRY FP, its first fluidized-bed granulation and drying device, on February 24.

Used in the production of solid preparations (the pharmaceutical industry's primary product format), the newly released POWDRY FP granulates active ingredients and excipients*1 in wet granulation and then dries them. By using the POWDRY FP in combination with EarthTechnica's existing mixer granulators, high-speed mixers, sifters, trituration sifters*2 and other products, it becomes possible to carry out sifting, mixing, granulation, particle sizing and drying as an integrated system to produce tablets, granular medicines, capsules and other solid pharmaceutical preparations.

EarthTechnica is releasing eight models capable of handling anywhere from 1 kilogram per batch (model EPD01) to 200 kilograms per batch (model EPD200), and the company plans to expand this lineup in the future to meet market demand.

POWDRY FP will be exhibited at the Second International Pharmaceutical R&D and Manufacturing Expo Osaka (INTERPHEX OSAKA 2016), which will be held from February 24 to 26 at INTEX Osaka.

*1

lactose, microcrystalline cellulose and other additives that make medicines easier to take, dispense, etc.
*2  a device used to grind solid powder materials to reduce particle size while simultaneously removing foreign bodies contained in the powder.

Advantages Offered by the POWDRY FP

  1. Fluidization Mechanism
Featuring a bed shape, screen shape and blowing speed distribution control technology based on proprietary flow analysis, the POWDRY FP achieves uniform fluidization in fluidized beds with no particle segregation. This improves granulation quality, reduces uneven drying and otherwise contributes toward higher-quality finished pharmaceutical products.
  2. Spraying Methods
Thanks to the adoption of a side-spray approach suited to fine-grain coating in addition to a top-spray method suitable for binding-agent spraying operations, the POWDRY FP can be used in a wide range of applications.
  3. Ease of Maintenance
The main unit is divided into multiple, separable sections (except for the EPD01, which is one solid unit), and the primary sections can be easily detached without the use of special tools. This facilitates much easier cleaning and maintenance and greatly reduces the burden placed on operators and maintenance staff.
