22MW Class Steam Turbine Generator Ordered for Korea

Jan. 20, 2016

Tokyo, January 20, 2016 — Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. announced today that it has received an order for one set of steam turbine generator with a rated output of 21.99MW for Korea District Heating Corporation (KDHC) from Lotte Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd. (Lotte E&C) in Korea.

Lotte E&C, which placed the order, is one of the largest Korean construction companies. The company has been building high-rise buildings, petrochemical plants, power generating plants and industrial plants since its foundation in 1959. Nowadays, it also lays emphasis on renewable energy-related plants and environmental plants.

KDHC, the end user, is a public company that supplies heat and electricity to surrounding areas, and it has a large number of power plants in Korea.

KDHC is planning to construct a new Solid Refuse Fuel (SRF) power plant in Gwangju City. In this project, Kawasaki will deliver a steam turbine generator to Lotte E&C, which is the general contractor for a boiler and steam turbine to be used in the Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) power plant. The steam turbine generator is planned to be shipped in January 2017.

Since the launch of its first industrial steam turbine in 1956, Kawasaki has supplied over 370 steam turbine units. This latest order is a testament to Kawasaki’s business operation and its steam turbine’s high performance, as well as a proven past record.

Kawasaki will take advantage of its high technological capability and its reliability built on its substantial past record to expand sales not only in Korea but also in other Asian countries, where the demand for SRF and biomass power generation is expected to show continuous growth.
