Energy Recovery Facility Starts Operation in Saikai City, Nagasaki

Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. announced that Green Coal Saikai Co., Ltd. (headed by President Yoshihisa Watanabe; hereafter "Green Coal Saikai"), a special-purpose company co-founded by Electric Power Development Co., Ltd. (headed by President Masayoshi Kitamura; hereafter "J-Power") and Kawasaki, today started operation of its new facility for manufacturing carbonized fuel from municipal waste. Dubbed the Saikai Tanka ("carbonization") Center, the facility has been built as part of the city government’s project to build and operate an energy recovery facility.
J-Power, Kawasaki, and Green Coal Saikai signed special project contracts with the Saikai City government in November 2012 (announced on November 5, 2012). The facility had recently been completed by Kawasaki, which undertook its design and construction. Going forward, Green Coal Saikai will ensure stable operation of the Saikai Tanka Center until March 2030.
