Kawasaki to Build and Operate Waste Treatment Facility for Komatsu City

Jun. 25, 2015

Tokyo, June 25, 2015 – Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. announced today that it has been awarded a contract by Ishikawa Prefecture's city of Komatsu for a project covering the construction and operation of a new municipal waste treatment facility. Under the city's design-build-operate (DBO) project, Kawasaki will design and construct the waste treatment facility while Green Park Komatsu Co., Ltd., a special purpose company affiliated with Kawasaki, will operate it over a 20-year period.

The waste treatment facility to be built under the project will be capable of treating 110 tons of waste per day using two incinerators (each with a capacity to process 55 tons in 24 hours). It will employ the Kawasaki Advanced Stoker System featuring the company's proprietary parallel flow incinerators. The facility will also be equipped with bag filters, a flue gas recirculation system, and other advanced flue gas processing systems all designed to reduce its impact on the environment. On top of that, each of the incinerators combines high-temperature, high-pressure boilers and extraction condensing turbines for highly efficient electric power generation (with a maximum output of 1,990 kW). They will supply all the electricity the facility needs with surplus power left over to sell. The entire facility will be nestled in an idyllic, pastoral setting and feature an architectural design that blends in seamlessly with the natural environment.

Boasting a wide range of waste treatment technologies in addition to the stoker incinerator, Kawasaki will continue to develop innovations and deliver products that are an answer to today’s complex environmental problems and needs.
