Apr. 07, 2015
Tokyo, April 7, 2015 — Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. announced today that it has received an order for two 20-MW class gas turbine generator sets from Gas Malaysia-Energy Advance Sdn. Bhd. via Kawasaki Gas Turbine Asia Sdn. Bhd. (KGA), its gas turbine sales and service subsidiary for Southeast and Southwest Asia, located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Both gas turbine generator sets are the GPB180D model powered by Kawasaki's proprietary natural gas-fueled L20A gas turbine. Gas Malaysia-Energy Advance will use them to provide energy services to Toray Industries, Inc.'s Malaysian subsidiaries, Toray Industries (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd., Penfibre Sdn. Bhd., Penfabric Sdn. Bhd., and Toray Plastics (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. The gas turbine generator sets will supply electricity and heat to the factories operated by these four Toray group companies all located in Malaysia's northern state of Penang. The heat from the gas turbines will be used in the factories' production processes. They are slated to go into operation in mid-2016.
Harnessing its state-of-the-art proprietary gas turbine technology and excellent reliability backed by a wealth of experience, Kawasaki will work to expand sales in Southeast Asia. Anticipating market growth in the region, a number of Japanese companies have set up shop there. Kawasaki will take this opportunity to step up efforts to market its products to this customer segment as it leverages its global sales network, encompassing Europe, U.S.A, the Far East as well as Southeast and Southwest Asia, to expand its gas turbine operations around the world.
