Kawasaki Launches New Compact, Energy-Saving Controllers for Robots

Feb. 25, 2015

Tokyo, February 25, 2015 — Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. announced today that it will launch new compact, energy-saving controllers for robots on March 1, 2015.

The controllers to be launched take the excellent usability and reliability of the existing E series and downsizing the size to the smallest level in the industry, while reducing energy consumption. These controllers support the three series of robots to be released at the same time, on March 1, 2015 — the high-speed palletizing CP series, the large general-purpose CX series and the compact arc welding BA series — and there are also plans to support existing models, in turn.

Features

1) Compact size

The controllers' basic components have been downsized and component layout has been optimized,, downsizing the size of the controllers by a remarkable 62% by volume compared to their conventional models. This enables stacked installation and reduces the space required for controller installation.

2) Energy savings

For the CP series of high-speed palletizing robots, the controller comes with an electric power regeneration function to reuse the deceleration energy in palletizing work. It saves energy and reduces CO2 emissions.

3) Universal support

Formerly, there were different controller specifications to support the respective standards of Japan/Asia, Europe, and the U.S. Now, functional safety technology has been employed to adopt a common safety circuit. The new controllers have common global specifications that support the standards of every country.
