Opening of Bangkok Office

Dec. 26, 2013

Tokyo, December 26, 2013 — Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. announced today that as of January 1, 2014, it will open an office in the Thai capital of Bangkok for Kawasaki representatives operating in the region.

In Southeast Asia, recent economic growth has spurred infrastructure development in the region, offering the Kawasaki Group plenty of opportunity to expand its activities. Previously, a local subsidiary in Singapore oversaw Kawasaki's activities in the entire Southeast Asia region, but from now on, the new office in Thailand will assist the company's expansion efforts by gathering information, studying the market and seeking business opportunities in the Mekong subregion*. With two local bases in the Southeast Asia region, Kawasaki aims to establish a more agile operating structure.

Thailand has been proactive in attracting foreign capital much earlier than other ASEAN member states. The country already has a well-developed industrial infrastructure. Many foreign companies from Europe, the United States and Japan operate in the country, contributing to the formation of industry clusters, especially in the automobile and electronics industries.

Kawasaki's activities in Thailand have mainly been centered on energy equipment and facilities as well as industrial machinery. In 1997, Kawasaki expanded its operations to include the manufacture and sale of motorcycles. Going forward, Kawasaki will actively pursue business opportunities in the entire Southeast Asia region to further expand its operations.

The following is an overview of the Bangkok office.

Address: Bangkok, Thailand
Scheduled Date of Establishment: January 1, 2014
Operations: Market research, advance marketing, collection of project information, supporting Kawasaki personnel traveling in the region and liaison work
Staff: 3 (1 representative, 2 local staff)
*Mekong subregion: Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, Cambodia and Laos
