298,000 DWT Ore Carrier Baogang Spirit Delivered

Tokyo, December 8, 2010 — Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. today delivered the Baogang Spiritore carrier to Kaw 1630 Shipping S.A. at Nantong COSCO KHI Ship Engineering Co., Ltd. (NACKS) in Nantong, in China. This 327-meter-long vessel (Kawasaki hull No. 1630) with a capacity of 298,000 DWT is the ninth ore carrier built by NACKS.
Features of the Baogang Spirit
1. This vessel is Kawasaki’s newly developed state-of-the-art large ore carrier. It will primarily transport iron ore between Brazil and China.
2. Each of the six cargo holds is equipped with a large, solid, single-panel hatch cover. The second and fourth cargo hold hatch covers are designed to slide open in either direction.
3. The fuel oil tanks’ double-hull construction is engineered to prevent marine pollution.
4. The vessel employs the Kawasaki rudder bulb system with fins (RBS-F) for maximum fuel economy.
5. The vessel’s low sulfur fuel tank effectively controls SOx emissions to meet international regulations.
