Kawasaki Ships Gas Turbine-driven Natural Gas Compressor Trains for Indian Offshore Natural Gas Compression Module
Dec. 06, 2010
Tokyo, December 6, 2010 — Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. announced today that three gas turbine-driven natural gas compressor trains for the Mumbai High North (MHN) Project, a natural gas field development project led by India's Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC), have been shipped from Kawasaki's Kobe Works.
The shipped compressor trains, each consisting of two compressors and one gas turbine, will be installed on the offshore platform located at the MHN oil and gas field. A gas compression module is under assembly at Larsen & Toubro Ltd.'s fabrication yard in Hazira, India, and the compressor trains will be integrated into the gas compression module before being installed at the offshore platform. ONGC will receive its final delivery in September 2011, with the start of commercial operations at the offshore platform scheduled for mid-2012.
The compression module is a compact unit comprised of a compressor, driver, gas cooler, scrubber, valves, controllers and other equipment that compresses natural gas offshore and transports it to onshore via underwater pipelines. Its modular design enables optimum installation in the limited space available on an offshore platform.
Kawasaki also received a related order from L&T to provide engineering services for the gas compression module currently under assembly, with this latest shipment of compressor trains to be installed in compression modules engineered by Kawasaki.
Kawasaki is one of the few compressor manufacturers known as total module suppliers, which provide comprehensive modular solutions, and it has a proven track record in India and Southeast Asia. The module currently manufactured for the MHN offshore platform marks the 54th order for a Kawasaki compression module and the 38th to India.
With environmental consciousness on the rise and the use of clean energy growing, Kawasaki's ongoing efforts to expand sales of its natural gas products will bring its energy and environmental business to new heights.
