Additional Gas Turbine Generator Ordered for 2012 APEC Summit Site and Oceanarium

Tokyo, November 10, 2010 -- Sojitz Corporation and Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. announced today that they have received two additional orders for the 7MW-class GPB70 gas turbine power generation system (GTG) from Russia's Far East Power Generation Co. with Sojitz Corporation acting as general contractor. One of the two power generation systems will be used at the 2012 APEC summit site on Russky Island, Vladivostok, while another will be installed in a new oceanarium to be constructed on Russky Island. The units are expected to come on line at the end of 2011. These orders bring the total number of Kawasaki GTGs on Russky Island to seven. Kawasaki will deliver the GTGs through Sojitz, while Sojitz will separately provide auxiliary equipment.

The orders come as part of a project to construct a co-generation system consisting of gas turbine power generation systems and hot water boilers that will supply electricity and heat for the APEC summit venue and the oceanarium. Electricity and hot water will be supplied to the main summit site from five of the units, and to the oceanarium from the other two. By using exhaust gas from the GTG to supply hot water to the APEC summit site and oceanarium, the co-generation system will achieve approximately 80% efficiency and thus help to curb global warming.

Under normal conditions, the co-generation system is fueled by natural gas. Should the supply of natural gas be impacted, the system can also run on diesel fuel thanks to its dual-fuel gas turbines.

The GTGs ordered for the project incorporate the wholly Japanese-made 6 to 8 MW-class M7A gas turbine developed by Kawasaki. In early 2009 the M7A gas turbine became the first gas turbine of its class in Japan to reach a total of 100 units. Since delivery of the first unit in 1994, the M7A has built a strong record of successful deliveries throughout all the world.

The GPB70 GTG has been proven to outperform competitors in a wide range of areas. This latest order is a testament to the GPB70's overall superior performance, compact size, easy maintenance, and Kawasaki's excellent customer support services in the Russian Far East.
