298,000 DWT Ore Carrier Ore Amazonas Delivered

Tokyo, October 14, 2010 — Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. announced today the delivery of the Ore Amazonas ore carrier to Kamishio Maritime Corp. at Nantong COSCO KHI Ship Engineering Co., Ltd. (NACKS) in Nantong, China on October 13. This 327-meter-long vessel (Kawasaki hull No. 1629) with a capacity of 298,000 DWT is the eighth ore carrier built by NACKS.
Features of the Ore Amazonas
1. This vessel is Kawasaki’s newly developed state-of-the-art large ore carrier. It will primarily transport iron ore between Brazil and China.
2. Each of the six cargo holds is equipped with a large, solid, single-panel hatch cover. The second and fourth cargo hold hatch covers are designed to slide open in either direction.
3. The fuel oil tanks’ double-hull construction is engineered to prevent marine pollution.
4. The vessel employs the Kawasaki rudder bulb system with fins (RBS-F) for maximum fuel economy.
5. TheOre Amazonas 's low sulfur fuel tank effectively controls SOx emissions to meet international regulations.
