Working to Realize a Society that Coexists with Nature Through Forest Restoration Efforts

The Kawasaki Group has established its contributions to the global environment as part of its Group Mission, and aims to realize a society that coexists with nature. As part of these efforts, we conduct forest restoration activities toward fostering the environmental awareness of employees and interacting with local communities at two locations in Kochi and Hyogo Prefectures.
In Hyogo Prefecture, we have participated in a corporate forest restoration project which was launched by the prefecture in order to regenerate forests that have become hard to maintain due to the deteriorating forestry industry. Initially, activities started out at a community forest, called the Kawasaki Heavy Industries Saidani Nagomi-no-Mori in Taka, Hyogo Prefecture, and in April 2014, we shifted activities to a neighboring area in the same town, called the Kawasaki Heavy Industries Yokamura Park Nagomi-no-Mori, and continue planting, thinning, and our nature watching and observation programs.
Thus far, about 1,600 people including employees, their family members, and new recruits have participated in these activities, during which approximately 2,450 tree seedlings including Japanese red pine, konara oak, and mountain maple from Hyogo Prefecture have been planted. In addition, the amount of CO2 absorbed by the forests maintained by the Group has reached approximately 65.4t, and in recognition of this achievement, we were presented with a CO2 Removal Certificate by Taka.

In Kochi Prefecture, we have participated in a prefecture-organized forest restoration project aimed at forest regeneration and have been active in the town of Niyodogawa since 2007. Every year, new employees conduct forest preservation activities such as thinning and are deepening our level of interaction with local communities.

In collaboration with local communities, we promote forest restoration activities, and contribute to the preservation of watershed forests and the prevention of global warming toward realizing coexistence between humans and nature.
