Thermal Protection System for Re-entry Capsule

Aerospace Company

A USERS (Unmanned Space Experiment Recovery System) was launched by H-IIA rocket No.3 in Sep. 2002 and its re-entry capsule was successfully recovered in the Pacific Ocean around the Ogasawara Islands after its re-entry in May 2003. It was the first time that a Japanese spacecraft was recovered from space for practical use.
KHI developed and manufactured the Thermal Protection System for USERS, which played a very important role in protecting equipment in the capsule because the surface temperature of the capsule was more than 2000℃ during re-entry.
