Fine Sector θ Ultrafine Powder Classifier Launche

Tokyo, November 27, 2012—Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. announced today that Kawasaki subsidiary EarthTechnica Co., Ltd. will launch Fine Sector θ, a fine powder classifier capable of separating ultrafine powder, at the end of November.

The launch of the Fine Sector θ will add to the lineup of classifiers on offer from EarthTechnica, which already includes a coarse powder classifier. The new classifier utilizes the rotary classification technology built into the JEDI jet mill, popular for its excellent pulverization performance and ease of particle size adjustment.

Featuring a proprietary rotary classification and dispersion mechanism, the Fine Sector θ is capable of separating ultrafine powders with a particle size of 1 to 3 μm or less, a size that is normally difficult to classify, with outstanding precision and efficiency. With its cutting-edge technology, the Fine Sector θ will help improve the performance of functional powders, including color toner and battery material, that are becoming increasingly sophisticated. Although the two models to be launched this time are of a smaller type, future additions to the lineup will include larger models capable of high-volume production.

EarthTechnica will exhibit the Fine Sector θ at POWTEX TOKYO 2012 to be held from November 28 to 30, 2012 at the Tokyo Big Sight.

Main Features of the Fine Sector θ

Special-shape classification rotor
A special-shape classification rotor that builds on the rotary classification technology of the JEDI jet mill enables high-precision classification.

High-performance dispersion blades
The classification rotor features dispersion blades that employ a unique technology developed by EarthTechnica. These blades achieve high-precision classification by dispersing the raw material in an ideal configuration.

Enables submicron-level classification
This classifier is suited for separating ultrafine, submicron powder with a particle size of 1 to 3 μm or less, a level normally considered difficult to classify.

Easy to control particle size
The classification point can be easily controlled by changing the rotational speed of the classification rotor.

Easy maintenance
As with the JEDI jet mill, the Fine Sector θ is outfitted with a mechanism for opening and closing the rotor, which allows for easy cleaning.
