Tokyo, February 9, 2011 — Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. announced today that it will launch the flagship model of its JET SKI Series, the JET SKI ULTRA 300X, in Japan on April 20, 2011.

The new ULTRA 300X has a 4-stroke, 4-valve, liquid-cooled, DOHC engine (1,498 cm3) equipped with a new EATON TVS (Twin Vortices Series)* Roots-type supercharger. This combination produces a significant increase in engine power over previous models and a highly smooth throttle response. The hull employs a newly designed Deep-V type structure that is both rigid and lightweight, and incorporates Electric Trim Control to enable vertical angle adjustment of the jet nozzle for superior handling and stability and excellent turning performance even on rough water. Use of the Electronic Throttle Valve, which effectively and precisely controls the engine’s enormous power, makes Electronic Cruise Control and switching between various engine operation modes possible. A newly designed nose section represents the powerful and aggressive image of the product. With powerful acceleration, superior handling, and the convenience and comfort by electronic controls, the JET SKI ULTRA 300X is the flagship model for a higher class of JET SKI.

The luxury edition JET SKI ULTRA 300LX, which shares the same engine and hull as the ULTRA 300X, will be available beginning May 20th. It will be equipped with a luxury seat for superior contact and comfort (LXuryseat) and an exterior with chrome parts and metallic paint for a greater sense of luxury.

Both models are equipped with new features to assist fuel-efficient riding, including a Fuel Economy Assistance Mode with engine mapping to prioritizie fuel efficiency and an Economical Riding Indicator that illuminates during operation at high fuel efficiency. The two models also have superior environmental performance to comply with the Phase 2 voluntary emission standards of the Japan Boating Industry Association that are applicable in Japan beginning with year 2011 models, and also with the CARB’s highest three-star rating, the most stringent emission standards in the world.

* In contrast to a previous Roots-type supercharger, where supercharging is intermittent due to twin intermeshing 2-lobe rotors, the TVS employs twin 4-lobe screw-type rotors that produce smooth and continuous supercharging.

Key Features

□Engine (Both ULTRA 300X and ULTRA 300LX)

The 4-stroke, 4-cylinder, DOHC 4-valve liquid-cooled engine (1,498 cm3) is equipped with a new EATON TVS (Twin Vortices Series) Roots-type supercharger. Combined with a high-capacity liquid-cooled intercooler and high-flow type fuel injection system, the engine produces outstanding power. The new supercharger has 28% higher charging efficiency while achieving a 10% reduction in mechanical loss. Continuous charging characteristic brings smooth throttle response from close to full open position.
Both models employ an Electronic Throttle Valve, a first for JET SKI. The throttle valve is electrically controlled to achieve optimum air intake for effective and precise control of the engine’s enormous power. Other new electronic control functions include Electronic Cruise Control, which can be set to any speed by the rider, and a One-touch 5 mph Mode for use in speed-restricted areas, such as the marina and harbor.
Both models are equipped with a Fuel Economy Assistance Mode that switches engine mapping to prioritize fuel economy. It is activated by pressing a button located on the left hand handlebar.

□Hull (Both ULTRA 300X and ULTRA 300LX)

Newly designed Deep-V type hull structure provides optimal balance in rigidity. While it achieves a higher rigidity needed for the engine’s greater power, it is still lighter-weight than previous models. The Deep-V type hull brings stability on any water surface conditions and superior turning performance. Quattro KSDs (Kawasaki Splash Deflectors) are installed under the forward hull to minimize splash produced during operation and increase riding comfort.
The 5-way Adjustable Handle can be adjusted to five different positions to suit a wide range of riders and riding positions.
The vertical angle of the jet pump nozzle can be adjusted steplessly within ±8° range through the newly developed Electronic Trim Control System. The hull angle or attitude can be freely adjusted to suit water surface conditions and the desired riding style. For example, on rough water, the rider can improve maneuverability against waves by nose-up attitude with the nozzle directed upward, or can enhance turning performance with the nozzle directed downward to enjoy quicker handling.
A newly designed nose section accentuates the powerful and aggressive image of the model.

□Equipment (Both ULTRA 300X and ULTRA 300LX)

Both models are equipped with the newly designed full digital indicator. In addition to the tachometer and speedometer functions, the indicator has various display modes such as boost meter, fuel gauge, hour meter, warning lamps, coolant temperature gauge, atmospheric temperature gauge, operating mode indicator, jet pump nozzle angle indicator, etc. When the system determines that high fuel efficiency is achieved during operation, the Economical Riding Indicator installed will illuminate with an ECO Mark on the indicator.
Both models are equipped with KSS (Kawasaki Smart Steering) to assist learning the skills of making smooth turns. When certain conditions are met, it maintains engine speed to produce necessary thrust for the turn even if the throttle is fully closed.
Both models are equipped with an SLO (Smart Learning Operation) mode to assist beginners when learning maneuvering skills. By switching between full-power mode and SLO mode ignition keys, engine power is restricted to about 70%. This mode is also useful for experts to enjoy easy and relaxed cruising.
An immobilizer device enhances anti-theft capabilities by electronically comparing the ignition key and the ECU to determine whether the engine may be started.
Convenient storage spaces are provided in various locations, including a large front storage area exceeding 200-liter interior volume, a glove box with removable drink holder, and tool and miscellaneous storage under the rear seat.

□Equipment (ULTRA 300LX Only)

An ergonomically designed luxury seat securely holds the rider and the passenger. The seat provides a stable riding position even when accelerating or on rough water to make cruising comfortable and enjoyable.
High quality metallic paint is applied on the deck surface and parts of the nose and the grab bars are chrome finished to enhance the luxury feel.
