Tokyo, October 30, 2009 — Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. announced today that it will launch two new motorcycle models in the 125-cc class, the dual-purpose KLX125 and the motard* D-TRACKER 125, in Japan on December 15. Both models boast superior environmental performance and nimble handling.

Due to the ease of obtaining a driver’s license as well as the current economy, 125-cc motorcycles have won popularity among not only beginners looking for an entry model but also big bike owners looking for a second motorcycle. Lightweight and compact, these motorcycles are favored as commuter bikes by urban riders due to their agility. These motorcycles are enjoying growing market demand since they provide a convenient, daily means of transportation.

The KLX125 and the D-TRACKER 125 combine all the rider-friendly, versatile characteristics of compact motorcycles in a bike that is sheer fun to ride. Their 124 cm3, air-cooled, four-stroke, fuel injected single-cylinder SOHC engine is designed for superior environmental performance in compliance with the new Japanese exhaust emissions regulations as well as better fuel economy. Both models come equipped with a five-speed manual transmission for positive gear selection. The two models are fitted with exclusively designed frame and chassis components for optimal styling and riding performance.

The KLX125 and the D-TRACKER 125 are fitted with different suspensions and tires to fit their unique concepts. The KLX125’s front suspension features a shock-absorbing, long-stroke conventional fork for enhanced on-road and off-road performance. 19-inch front and 16-inch rear tires with block-shaped tread pattern are also installed. The D-TRACKER 125 employs the same kind of inverted fork usually found on high-end models to provide enhanced stability on the road. Its 14-inch front and rear on-road tires go excellently with its 125-cc motard styling.

*Motard typically refers to an off-road motorcycle fitted with smaller on-road tires.

Features
□Engine (KLX125 and D-TRACKER 125)

  • 124cm3, air-cooled, four-stroke, single-cylinder SOHC, two-valve engine with a maximum output of 7.5 kW for simplicity and reliability.
  • Equipped with a separate fuel pump, injector and regulator, the fuel injection system is the same kind used for large-displacement models. It ensures a smooth throttle response and optimal fuel supply at various riding conditions .
  • The throttle body is fitted with idle speed control (ISC) valves for enhanced cold-start performance and stable engine idling speed.
  • The simple-to-use electric starter system makes it easy to start.
  • The built-in oxygen sensor and catalyzer ensure emissions are clean enough to pass the strict Japanese exhaust emissions standards that went into effect in 2007.
