Zero Emissions Status Achieved at 14 Production Sites and Offices in Japan

Mar. 29, 2005

Tokyo, March 29, 2005 – Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. today announced that four more Kawasaki production sites have attained zero emissions facility status: Yachiyo Works, Gifu Works, Nagoya Works I and Nagoya Works II. As a result, 14 major Kawasaki production sites and offices have now become zero emissions facilities.

Kawasaki formulated its First Environmental Management Activities Plan in 1994 as a set of guidelines for the company's commitment to contributing to a sustainable society and promoting eco-conscious management. In the promotion of activities to reduce waste and raise recyclability, the company established the Zero Emissions Working Group in September 2000 to implement effective initiatives at all plants. Kawasaki has now attained the goal set in its Fourth Environmental Management Activities Plan (April 2003 - March 2006) to make all major production sites meet the criteria by the end of March 2005.

The four plants that have just achieved zero emissions status are all ISO 14001 certified. They have been engaged actively in various environmental protection activities, such as product assessments to develop eco-conscious products, energy conservation, waste recycling and waste volume reduction.

Kawasaki will further promote such activities to reduce environmental impact and to contribute to building a sustainable society.
