Agreed on cooperation for stainless steel EMU and high speed trains with one of India's largest heavy electrical manufacturer

Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. (Kawasaki) and Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), one of the largest heavy electrical manufacturer in India, has agreed on technical cooperation and collaboration with a view to jointly execute rolling stock procurement contracts in the Indian market.

Agreements with BHEL are as follows:

1)
Technical cooperation on stainless steel EMU
Signed a Technology Collaboration Agreement with BHEL with an aim to provide technical support for establishment of stainless steel EMU manufacturing plant planned by BHEL and transfer of design and manufacturing technologies of stainless steel EMU.
2)
Collaboration on high speed trains
Signed a Memorandum of Understanding with BHEL with an aim to manufacture rolling stock in India for high speed train procurements planned in India, including Mumbai-Ahmadabad High Speed Rail Project promoted by the Japanese and Indian governments and hold discussion to promote "Make in India".

As the Indian economy rapidly grows in the recent years, construction of urban transportation networks with introduction of metro coaches are under rapid development in a number of Indian megacities, such as Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and so forth, creating a sharp increase in the demand for metro coaches in India. Also, the “Make in India” initiative promoted by the Modi Administration require indigenisation of rolling stock for the Indian market.

BHEL, being one of the leading heavy electrical manufacturer owned by the Government of India with wealth of experience in the manufacture of electric and diesel locomotives as well as electronic components for EMU for Indian Railways, contemplates to engage themselves in design and manufacture of rolling stock products for metro and high speed railway projects to cope with the rapidly expanding demands in the Indian rolling stock market.

Kawasaki will enter the booming Indian rolling stock market and establish a rolling stock supply system that meets the needs of the market by combining organically the world’s top level rolling stock technologies of Kawasaki and the manufacturing capabilities in India of BHEL

Kawasaki will aggressively pursue continuous rolling stock business promotions and developments in overseas markets.
