Kawasaki to Provide Gas Turbine-driven Natural Gas Compression Trains and provide Engineering Services for Oil & Gas Project in India

Jan. 21, 2016

Tokyo, January 21, 2016 — Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. announced today that it has received an order from L&T Hydrocarbon Engineering, Ltd. (LTHE), a fully owned subsidiary of Larsen & Toubro Ltd., in India to provide three gas turbine-driven compression trains and engineering services for an offshore gas compression module. The module will be installed on a platform to be constructed at the site of the Bassein Development Project, off the western coast of India, a natural gas field development project operated by Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC).

The compression module is a compact unit that is comprised of a compressor, driver, gas cooler, scrubber, valves, controllers and other equipment, and used to  compress natural gas at sea and transport it to land via underwater pipelines. Its modular design enables optimum installation in the limited space available on an offshore platform.

Three compression trains, each of which has one gas turbine driver and a compressor, will be mounted to one common compression module. The module will be assembled at LTHE’s Modular Fabrication Facility at Hazira, India before being installed on the process platform. The platform is scheduled to be delivered to ONGC and go into commercial operation in December 2017.

Kawasaki is one of the few compressor manufacturers that provide comprehensive modular solutions. This latest order is a testament to Kawasaki’s outstanding reliability and proven track record in India and Southeast Asia. This marks the 57th order for a Kawasaki compression module and the 41st to India.

Kawasaki continues to work on expanding sales of its products related to natural gas, a clean energy, as it moves forward to bring its energy and environmental business to new heights.
